Lead Control Systems Engineer - Holly Springs, NC (Holly Springs)

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a leading building automation and controls engineering organization specializing in large-scale HVAC, utilities, and mission-critical facility systems. The firm delivers full lifecycle controls solutions from design through commissioning and final system turnover.

Summary

This is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for delivering building automation projects across design, configuration, installation, and onsite commissioning. The Lead Controls Systems Engineer will manage engineering teams, support customer engagements, and ensure successful system performance from design through field startup and acceptance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a project team of approximately 25 engineers and provide technical direction

• Assign engineering tasks and support project execution planning

• Support change order development including hardware and engineering effort estimates

• Create instrument lists from P&ID drawings

• Select instrumentation such as transmitters, flow meters, and valve actuators

• Specify controls hardware and system components

• Develop panel layouts and electrical schematics for control systems

• Compile submittal packages for controls and instrumentation

• Support procurement of project hardware

• Review and inspect completed control panels and enclosures

• Lead customer design review meetings

• Configure HMI, DDC, PLC, and/or DCS control systems

• Develop control logic, algorithms, and system configuration

• Perform internal functional testing and quality validation

• Prepare system documentation and support customer acceptance testing

• Install software and configuration at customer sites

• Perform loop checks, calibration, and system tuning

• Execute functional testing and troubleshoot installation issues

• Train customer operators on system use and maintenance

Requirements

• Experience in building automation or industrial controls systems

• Proficiency with one or more platforms including Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Inductive Automation Ignition, Distech, or Niagara

• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and sequences of operation

• Experience with P&IDs, instrumentation, and control valves

• Knowledge of chiller plants, boiler systems, and facility utilities

• Understanding of electrical distribution systems and single-line diagrams

• Onsite commissioning and field startup experience required

• Familiarity with subcontractor coordination and low-voltage installation practices

• Understanding of GAMP principles and structured automation methodologies
