Bridge Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
- Execute drafting-focused work, producing bridge plans and sheets to learn foundational bridge terminology, components, standards, and how a complete plan set is assembled.
- Support senior engineers with plan production, detailing, assembling specifications, and performing basic calculations to build hands-on familiarity with bridge elements and construction requirements.
- Progress through increasingly advanced design responsibilities, starting with component-level design, then moving into system-level analysis, and eventually contributing to full bridge design as skills and professional proficiency grow.
- Prepare material for reports, including gathering information, writing rough outlines, and assisting with documentation and graphic presentations.
- Perform data acquisition and analysis, researching the feasibility of alternative design approaches, evaluating site conditions, and reviewing relevant regulatory agency specifications or requirements.
- Participates in projects involving construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with easily interpreted specifications; assists in recordkeeping and in generating progress reports; observes relatively simple construction procedures; and collects samples for quality control testing.
- Performs field observations of construction where appropriate.
- Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
- EXPERIENCE: 0-2 Years of professional experience in a related technical field is preferred.
- EDUCATION: Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited college/university. Master's Degree highly desirable.
- SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
- Math skills to perform simple calculations; willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation (preferred).
- Proficient interpersonal and communications skills.
- Capability to develop technical writings and reports.
- PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification is required. Offers will be made contingent upon obtaining EI/EIT certification from licensing board (preferably NCBELS).
