Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Provide advanced nursing care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting, managing complex post-surgical and medical patients in a trauma level III teaching hospital. This contract opportunity emphasizes critical thinking and detailed clinical skills while supporting a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to PCU patients with diagnoses including HPB surgeries (Whipples, liver resections), womens surgery (hysterectomies, mastectomies), and reconstructive plastic surgery.
- Manage complex drains, central lines, G/J tubes, and infusion therapies such as heparin and cardiac drips per ACLS guidelines.
- Perform NGT placement and management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and other specialized PCU nursing interventions.
- Collaborate with CNAs and charge nurses to ensure seamless patient care, assist in admissions, medication administration, and monitor telemetry.
- Utilize technology including Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, Omnicell med dispensing, bladder scanners, and bedside tele monitors.
- Participate in a rotating schedule, including every other weekend shifts and coverage during most holidays, with provisions for limited time off.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with active licensure.
- Minimum 18 months experience specifically in Progressive Care/Stepdown.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (per resource team requirements).
- Competence in drain care, cardiac drip management, and complex patient monitoring.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks typically assigned to CNAs such as blood draws and Foley catheter insertion/removal.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Schedule and Location:
- Shifts available: 6:45 AM7:15 PM (days), 6:45 PM7:15 AM (nights).
- Weekend rotations every other week; holiday work expected approximately 75% of the time.
