Orthopedic RN Job Details

• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1660 - $1700
• Assignment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel Nursing Contract)
• Location: Winston Salem, NC 27103 (North Carolina healthcare jobs)
• Unit: General Orthopedics (5 General Orthopedics)
• Start Date: September 22, 2025
• End Date: January 19, 2026
• Duration: 17 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
• Patient Ratios: 5-6:1, may flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Float Requirement: May float to other med-surg units as needed
• Scheduling: Block scheduling available (F/S/S or S/S/M)

Orthopedic Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent orthopedic nursing experience in a hospital or clinical setting
• Active RN license in North Carolina or compact state (required at start)
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certifications required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• IV start and telemetry skills required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), charge nurse, and Level I trauma experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Ability to float to other medical-surgical units as needed
• First-time travel nurses with Epic experience are welcome

Orthopedic RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
• Manage pain protocols and administer multiple pain medications for post-surgical and orthopedic patients
• Start IVs, monitor telemetry, and interpret/manage dysrhythmias
• Care for patients with spinal cord injuries, total joint replacements, and trauma hips
• Perform blood product administration, central line care, and surgical drain management
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Maintain excellent customer service and communication with patients and families
• Float to other med-surg units within the facility as required
