Description
At FOCUS Broadband, our Accountants play a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and long-term success of our organization and its affiliated entities. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing data, and preparing reports that guide strategic decision-making. The Accountant ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the FCC’s Uniform System of Accounts (Part 32), and other regulatory standards while reinforcing strong internal controls and organizational policies. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting timely financial reporting, facilitating audits, and contributing to the overall fiscal health and transparency of a rapidly growing broadband company.
Requirements
- Oversee the general ledger and related journals by preparing accurate journal entries, managing accounts receivable and payroll, performing bank reconciliations, and processing cash disbursements, all in compliance with internal policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Manage one or more specialized accounting functions such as accounts receivable, payroll, inventory control, cost study data, financial recordkeeping, contract administration, unclaimed property oversight, and census documentation.
- Compile, analyze, and provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports that equip management with clear insights into the organization’s fiscal health and performance trends.
- Maintain up-to-date continuing property records (CPRs) by assessing and inventorying real property and equipment, documenting key details including descriptions, asset identifiers, valuations, and physical locations.
- Facilitate internal and external audits by gathering required documentation, maintaining organized records, and ensuring compliance with audit standards and readiness protocols.
- Prepare and submit mandatory tax filings in compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Support state and federal compliance by assisting with grant reporting and regulatory documentation to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
- Contribute to operational continuity by engaging in cross-training efforts and offering support across departments during staff absences.
- Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of all financial data and transactions through meticulous attention to detail and adherence to ethical standards.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
- Experience with journal entries & general ledger maintenance.
- At least two years of relevant accounting experience is preferred.
- Experience with financial regulations, auditing practices, and accounting principles.
- Experience in a regulated industry (telecommunications/utilities) preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX/D365 or other accounting software preferred.
- Must maintain a good driving record and a valid driver’s license.
