Essential Job Duties
Join our dedicated
Building Maintenance and Operations team as a Facilities Maintenance Technician and play a vital role in keeping our campus systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably. In this position, you’ll use your technical expertise to maintain, repair, and install a wide range of building systems, including HVACR , electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver with strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and service excellence.

K ey responsibilities and duties include, but not limited to:
- Maintain, repair, and install HVACR systems , including air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, pressure-reducing stations, air compressors, and water softeners
- Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidelines on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
- Conduct electrical work up to 600 VAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical panels, breakers, switchgear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, and lighting systems
- Troubleshoot and repair control systems , including temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators
- Install and maintain plumbing systems , including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipes, valves, and fixtures for gas, water, and sanitation systems
- Perform pipefitting and insulation work related to steam and water distribution systems
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices while performing all duties
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds to 90 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
- Perform tasks requiring standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and utilizing various tools. Safely climb and work from different types of ladders to access elevated or below-grade areas (such as roofs, above-ceiling spaces, and utility pits). Be exposed to and work in areas where insects or small animals are occasionally present. All essential tasks must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public, and follow verbal and written instructions related to work assignments and operational needs
Other Responsibilities
- Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks.
- Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the trades areas of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
- Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards
- Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with colleagues and campus partners
Required License or Certification
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
