Student Ministry Director/Pastor

OVERVIEW

The Student Ministry Director provides vision, leadership, and relational shepherding for the middle and high school ministry of Summit Community Church (SCC). This role combines strategic leadership with a deep heart for students and their families—creating spaces where young people can live in community, know, love, and enjoy Jesus, and share Him with others. At SCC, our mission is to be a family for all people enjoying God and making disciples of Him . We are an elder led, multi-generational, Southern Baptist Church with around 500 weekly attenders and 300 members located in the heart of downtown Morganton, North Carolina.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Committed follower of Jesus Christ who has clearly demonstrated a Christlike character as described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13
• Convictional and committed to the Gospel, the doctrine of SCC, and affirming of the BF&M2000
• Knowledgeable – with a growing understanding of church-based Student Ministry, including strategies for discipling students and partnering with their families
• Evangelistic – with a conviction to help their church reach unbelieving students, including equipping believing students to fulfill the Great Commission
• Relationally minded and capable of connecting and working well with others, including elders, deacons, staff members, members, and guests
• Intentional, self-motivated, teachable, loving, and invested
• Candidates should have received a bachelor’s degree, working towards earning one, or have comparable experience/education

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the leadership of the elders, and with the help of the Student Ministry Team, the Student Ministry Director will:

• Lead (and meet regularly with) the Student Ministry Team to establish a cohesive plan for the Student Ministry that aligns with the church’s larger disciple-making strategy
• Engage students, parents, and leaders inside and outside regular gatherings in an appropriate, gospel-centered, biblically sound, and joy-filled way that magnifies Christ, and encourages participation in the life of the church
• Communicate important information and updates with students, parents and leaders
• Connect with area schools and local ministry partners to help students find ways to fulfill the Great Commission
• As a full-time staff member and employee of Summit Community Church, the Student Ministry Director will:
  • Become a fully devoted member of SCC and joyfully embed themselves in the life of the church
  • Take part in all staff meetings and activities and meet regularly with the Lead Pastor for growth, encouragement, and development
  • Maintain regular office hours and participation in church services and relevant ministry programs under the direction of the elders
  • Keep a close eye both on their “life and doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:16)
