Material Handler
Job Description
This entry-level role supports advanced textile and aerospace composite manufacturing by performing hand weaving and material handling tasks in a highly specialized production environment. You will assist the weaver, operate within the Preform department, and help produce engineered textile components used in aerospace applications. The position offers structured training, exposure to proprietary equipment, and clear opportunities for growth within a stable, high-tech industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist the weaver by manually yarn-in creels and collecting salvage waste to support continuous production.
- Perform hand weaving operations accurately according to verbal and written instructions.
- Set up workstations based on style specifications, job requirements, and production schedules.
- Inspect products during production cycles, identify defects, and document findings clearly and accurately.
- Follow all written work instructions (WI’s) and Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s) at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, returning tools and materials to designated locations.
- Communicate effectively with Leads and Engineering about discrepancies, quality issues, or station malfunctions.
- Notify leadership promptly of product defects, equipment issues, or safety concerns.
- Meet daily production goals while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Handle materials safely and efficiently, including bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Use basic math and measurement tools, such as tape measures or rulers, to verify dimensions and specifications.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and consistently wear required personal protective equipment.
- Support team members and take on additional production or housekeeping tasks as needed in a small-company environment.
- Work across different parts of the vertically integrated production process as training and business needs require.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
- Good eyesight, with corrective lenses acceptable, to perform detailed and precise work.
- Ability to sit for long periods and maintain focus on detailed, repetitive tasks without losing accuracy.
- Strong concentration skills and the ability to sustain attention for extended durations.
- Basic math skills, including working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure or ruler to verify measurements.
- Physical ability to bend, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs as part of daily tasks.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination for fine, detailed work and hand weaving.
- Comfort working in a production, general manufacturing, and material handling environment.
- Willingness to follow structured work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards consistently.
- Prior textile, weaving, or hand-craft experience is a plus.
- Previous manufacturing or production experience is beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills and effective time management abilities.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify issues and escalate appropriately.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with Leads, Engineering, and Operations.
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in learning proprietary, cutting-edge machinery and processes.
- Motivation to grow into higher-skill roles as training and performance milestones are achieved.
You will join a stable, specialized organization operating in a high-tech aerospace textile environment with consistent demand and no history of layoffs. The company offers a true entry-level opportunity with structured, hands-on training on unique, proprietary equipment and processes that are rare and highly valuable on a resume. You can build a long-term career path with clear opportunities for advancement, skill development, and pay progression as your capabilities grow. The workplace features a small, supportive team, engaged leadership, and a culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous learning. Employees benefit from a clean, quiet, climate-controlled facility, monthly incentive bonuses tied to production performance, and the chance to develop a niche, in-demand craftsmanship-style skill set in advanced materials.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, non-exempt role based in a North Carolina production facility that operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), and 3rd shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM), with a shift differential for non-day shifts. The facility is temperature-controlled with LED lighting and maintains a clean, organized workspace with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. The environment includes carbon-fiber and fiberglass production, which can be dusty and may cause skin irritation, so appropriate personal protective equipment is required. Team members must wear steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and ear protection where needed, and follow all safety procedures. Work involves a mix of sitting and standing, with prolonged sitting for weaving tasks and regular material handling activities. The setting is generally quiet compared to typical manufacturing environments, with localized noise when specific tools or equipment are in use. As a small company operation, employees may occasionally take on tasks outside their core job description to support overall production needs and collaborate closely with Leads, Engineering, and Operations in a team-oriented atmosphere.
