Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.

Details

  • 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity, located within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • High-acuity neonatal patient population with complex respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PPHN, PDA), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/multisystem diagnoses including NEC, NAS, sepsis, and congenital anomalies
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
  • Specialized procedures and equipment include ventilator and trach management, CRRT, ECMO (baby side), EVDs, Camino ICP monitoring, vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART/CVP), chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, HOFV, and g-tube/j-tube management
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; monitors: Philips; medication dispensing: Omnicell; additional equipment includes PIV ultrasound and Tecotherm
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (badge in 6:45 AM–7:15 PM), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required: 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays plus every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) within each 6-week scheduling cycle
  • Floating may be required to Neonatal PCU or General Peds units (Pediatric CVICU, PICU, general peds) as a helping hand, unless the candidate has prior experience in those populations
  • No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize a traveler, they may be floated to similar units

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management, ventilator/trach care, and neonatal critical care procedures required
  • CRRT and ECMO (baby side) experience preferred; EVD and ICP monitoring experience also preferred (manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills)
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity neonatal nursing care including bedside procedures, sedation and analgesic drip management, aseptic and sterile technique, and coordination with a multidisciplinary team
  • Robust departmental support includes a unit secretary, charge nurse, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors — all available 24/7
  • Orientation consists of the NEO program plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scheduling is managed on a 6-week cycle based on unit needs; shift dates are provided by the Clinical Supervisor after the core team schedule is finalized
  • Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work the day of, and the evening and/or day after, every other holiday while contracted
  • RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs may be asked to extend their contract to accommodate
  • Scrub color: solid navy; long-sleeve undershirts must be solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops required; no tight scrubs or other organizational branded attire
  • "Bare Below Elbow" policy is enforced in nurseries — no watches, jewelry (permanent or plastic), or artificial nails
  • First-time travelers are considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval, depending on current staffing
  • Candidates who have held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Free parking is available on-site
