Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Location: Wilmington, NC 28401 (North Carolina healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Type: Travel/Locum Tenens Registered Nurse
• Unit: 8S Medicine (Medical Surgical Nursing)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
• Contract Duration: 13–26 weeks (start: 9/2/2025, end: 3/3/2026)
• Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
• Scrubs: Navy/White
• Orientation: 24 hours unit orientation + hospital orientation week one
• Floating: Required within hospital or affiliate hospitals as needed
• Weekend Requirement: 12–16 weekend shifts per contract
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1700–$1750 per week

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical RN experience
• Active North Carolina or Compact RN license (required by start date)
• BCLS certification (required)
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Clinical skills: Med/Surg, Telemetry (remote monitoring), Rapid Response Team, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube care & management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin, PCA, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tank, isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• First-time travel nurses welcome

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality patient care to adults with diverse diagnoses: dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture
• Monitor and interpret telemetry remotely
• Administer medications, manage IVs, perform phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Provide wound care, manage feeding tubes, and perform colostomy care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services)
• Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed based on census and skills
• Participate in storm/hurricane team response and disaster preparedness
• Document patient care using Epic; follow SBAR communication protocols
