Architectural Wood Finishing Specialist

Bring architectural millwork to life through meticulous surface preparation and expertly applied finishes. In this role, you will transform raw and fabricated components into durable, specification-true pieces for commercial construction projects.

A day in the life

You start by reviewing shop drawings, finish schedules, and work orders to align with design intent. You prep substrates — sanding, filling, masking, and cleaning — then mix and match stains to approved samples. Inside a well-maintained spray booth, you apply stains, paints, lacquers, sealers, and protective coatings with spray equipment and hand tools. Throughout the day, you inspect for color consistency, surface quality, and defects, performing precise touch-ups as needed. You keep equipment and work areas clean and safe, follow all PPE and ventilation protocols, and collaborate with production teammates to hit timelines and quality goals.

What you will do

  • Prepare wood and other substrates by sanding, filling, masking, and cleaning.
  • Apply stains, paints, lacquers, sealers, and protective coatings using spray guns and hand tools.
  • Mix and color-match finishes to meet project specifications and approved samples.
  • Inspect completed pieces for quality, color consistency, and defects; complete touch-ups.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, finish schedules, and work orders.
  • Maintain finishing equipment, spray booths, and workspaces in clean, safe condition.
  • Follow chemical handling, ventilation, and PPE safety procedures.
  • Partner with production teams to meet schedule and quality expectations.

What you bring

  • 2+ years in commercial millwork, cabinetry, or woodworking finishing (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of stains, paints, lacquers, and finishing techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with spray guns, sanders, and related finishing equipment.
  • Proven ability to color match and maintain consistent finishes across multiple parts.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Ability to lift materials, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable in a fast-paced shop environment.

Schedule & compensation

Monday–Friday, 1st shift. Pay: $19–$22 per hour, depending on experience.
