Cardiologist (Fayetteville)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the VA Secretary.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
• PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they perform certain duties under supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Additional Requirement: Board certification in Internal Medicine (ABIM) in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology, and/or clinical cardiac electrophysiology, with maintained competencies.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform all activities of the position without restrictions, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; may involve stairs.

Duties

• This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT.
• All qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
• The incumbent must maintain ABIM board certification in specified cardiology specialties and current ACLS and BLS certifications.
• Responsibilities include clinical work, oversight, administration, research, and training of residents and trainees.
• Provides guidance to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and supervision for medical students and residents.
• Participates in quality improvement programs and adheres to information security and privacy policies.
• Develops and evaluates professional goals annually, participating in learning activities and mandatory education.
• Ensures all actions comply with VHA guidelines for Cardiology.
• Provides care for a wide range of medical problems, including rounding on consults in ICU, wards, and ER.
• Responds to codes and emergencies; must be available for on call duties, typically within one hour.
• May supervise or collaborate with APPs, with responsibilities noted in performance evaluations.
