Work Based Learning Student Intern- Student Success Center

Forsyth Tech’s Student Success department seeks an enthusiastic and motivated student for a one-semester internship. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in exploring career paths within education, student services, or human services, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, and making a meaningful contribution to student success. The intern will work closely with professional advisors and student support staff, assisting with a variety of tasks related to academic advising, new student orientation, student support initiatives, and special projects.



Learning Outcomes: Through this WBL internship, the student will gain valuable experience in:
  • Understanding the principles and practices of academic advising in a community college setting.
  • Developing skills in student support services and resource referral.
  • Gaining experience planning and executing student-focused events, such as orientation/first advising.
  • Improving communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Exploring potential career paths within higher education student services.
  • Working collaboratively within a professional team environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing.
  • Must have an approved WBL eligibility application on file.
  • Demonstrated interest in helping others and supporting student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications Essential Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



Advising Support:
  • Assist advisors with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, preparing materials, and managing student records (under supervision and adhering to confidentiality guidelines).
  • Support the development and organization of advising resources and workshops.
  • Potentially shadow advising appointments to observe and learn about the advising process.
  • Assist with communication to students regarding advising deadlines and opportunities.

Orientation/First-Advising Events:
  • Provide support for new student orientation programs, including setup, registration, information dissemination, and logistical assistance.
  • Serve as a welcoming resource for new students, answering general questions and providing directions.
  • Assist with the creation of orientation materials and presentations.
  • Event registration management, including working within our CRM Element 451, communicating with attendees, monitoring registrations, checking in attendees, and other attendee management in conjunction with the advising team.

Student Support Initiatives:
  • Assist with promoting Forsyth Tech’s holistic student support services and connecting students to those support services as needed.
  • Help organize and support student success workshops and events.
  • Contribute to the development of informational materials for students regarding available resources.

Special Projects:
  • Assist with research and data collection for departmental projects.
  • Provide administrative support for special initiatives to enhance student success and retention.
  • Contribute to the development of reports and presentations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the Student Success department.
