IT Server Engineer
: What You'll Be Doing The Wake County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications to be a part of our Sheriff's Information Technology unit. Come join our team as our next IT Server Engineer. Essential Functions: Administer, monitor and maintain network servers and associated components, including Windows and Linux server operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, data center storage systems, backup systems, and hypervisor environments such as VMware Provide services supporting DNS, DHCP, NTP, PKI, and Group Policy Plan and implement end-to-end architectures utilizing appropriate components and protocols to support data center server operations Plan, implement and test disaster recovery contingencies Provide advanced-level support to other IT professionals within the county for issues related to these technologies Manage security architecture, endpoint security, network security, the secure configuration of systems, and access control Maintain an advanced understanding of current and emerging threats and technologies Design and deploy information security technologies to directly support the organization's efforts in securing information and enforcing directives as mandated by regulations and Sheriff's Office policy Provide technical support and platform administration for the Server Team to include maintaining hardware and any associated software at current levels to ensure system productivity and availability Perform security incident and threat management, including monitoring security events, identifying abnormal/malicious behavior, investigating, triaging, and responding to security incidents Plan, coordinate, implement, and support information security measures and platforms to protect data, software, and hardware Develop strategy, technical direction and engineering solutions for enterprise-wide domain services supporting key business requirements Perform information security risk assessments, including service specific risk assessments, networks and systems, data security, network infrastructure, and reporting on security status and incidents Serve as a project leader or team member for assigned projects and tasks Develop and maintain complete security documentation related to security design, implementation, processes, and practices Provide assistance to other IT staff regarding server issues and act as second level support for the Helpdesk on areas that the Server Team leads or supports Provide supervisory oversight of other team members NOTES: This is not a remote position Some off hours work may be required MUST be able to pass a Law Enforcement or (CJIS) Criminal Justice Information Systems background investigation About Our Team The Wake County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for the unincorporated areas of the County. Wake County voters elect the Sheriff to four-year terms. Law enforcement is a vital role of government at nearly all levels within an organization. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field Four years of experience in server design and administration Equivalent education and experience are accepted Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) Five years of hands-on information security operations experience Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems and antivirus software Management or other supervisory experience How Will We Know You're 'The One'? Strong knowledge of server hardware, operating systems and virtualization technologies Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards, NIST, CORBIT, North Carolina State Information Security Manual, CJIS, and other regulatory requirements for government information systems Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Availability for on-call rotation and flexible work schedule with varied shift hours including overnights, weekends and on call-shifts which generally rotate between daylight-afternoon shifts About This Position Location: John H.
