Skills and Competencies

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on Java, including the ability to design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and production-ready applications
  • Proficiency in Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, or equivalent, with working knowledge of RESTful API design and microservices architecture
  • Experience working in Agile development environments with a track record of delivering high-quality code through continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms, with AWS preferred, including experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases, including writing and optimizing SQL queries and understanding data modeling concepts
  • Strong ability to collaborate across cross-functional engineering and analytical teams, participate in code reviews, and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain high-quality Java-based software solutions that support Moody's Ratings technology platforms and analytical workflows

  • Develop and maintain scalable, well-tested Java applications and services that power core ratings technology systems, following established engineering standards and best practices
  • Architect and implement RESTful APIs and microservices to support internal platforms and downstream analytical tools used by ratings professionals
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, and fellow engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions that meet performance, reliability, and scalability expectations
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, code review, deployment, and post-production monitoring
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to modernize legacy systems, reduce technical debt, and enhance overall system performance
  • Mentor junior and associate software engineers, offering guidance on coding standards, design patterns, and engineering practices that promote a culture of quality
  • Engage with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling to support automated builds, testing pipelines, and deployment processes in alignment with the team's engineering roadmap

About the Team

The Ratings Technology team at Moody's builds and maintains the critical platforms and engineering systems that support the global ratings process. Based in Charlotte, the team works at the intersection of finance and technology, delivering innovative Java-based solutions that enable analysts and business stakeholders to operate with speed, accuracy, and confidence. By joining our team, you will be part of a collaborative engineering community focused on modernizing core infrastructure, integrating AI-driven capabilities, and delivering solutions that directly impact how risk is assessed and communicated across global markets.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $116,500.00 - $169,000.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
