Job Description
The Material Handler works as part of a collaborative team to pull, prepare, and stage customer orders for shipment in a fast-paced metal service center. This role supports a wide range of manufacturing and industrial customers by accurately handling raw materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and red metals. You will operate material handling equipment, follow safety procedures, and help ensure next-day order fulfillment while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Responsibilities
- Pull and prepare customer orders, including metal sheets, bars, and other metal products, according to work instructions or basic blueprints.
- Accurately measure, count, and verify materials to ensure correct type, size, and quantity for each order.
- Load, stage, and organize materials for shipment to support next-day delivery commitments.
- Operate and handle overhead cranes and side loaders after receiving training and recertification.
- Cross-train and assist in operating metal saws, shears, laser machines, and other processing equipment as needed.
- Use RF scanners and inventory tools to track, locate, and confirm materials and orders.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies when handling materials, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including regular housekeeping of workstations and aisles.
- Perform general labor tasks, including heavy lifting, material movement, and basic mechanical activities.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet productivity, accuracy, and customer service goals.
- Identify and report any damaged materials, equipment issues, or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Experience performing picking, packing, or general labor duties in a warehouse, industrial, or similar environment.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing approximately 50–75 lbs on a regular basis.
- Comfort working in an industrial or warehouse environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, and metal products.
- Basic mechanical aptitude to safely operate and learn material handling and processing equipment.
- Ability to read and use measuring tapes and other measuring tools to verify material dimensions.
- Familiarity with inventory processes and use of RF scanners or similar handheld devices.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately count, measure, and verify materials.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform frequent bending, lifting, and repetitive motions.
- Reliability, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude toward teamwork and safety.
- Willingness to be trained and recertified on overhead cranes and side loaders.
- Interest in cross-training on metal saws, shears, laser machines, and other processing equipment.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented metal distribution and processing facility.
- Openness to working 2nd shift and potential future shift assignments as needed.

Work Environment
This role is based in a metal distribution and processing facility with a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere. You will work around metal products, machinery, and moving equipment such as overhead cranes, side loaders, metal saws, shears, and laser machines. The position involves frequent standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions, as well as regular handling of materials weighing 50–75 lbs. The facility emphasizes safety and organization, with clean, structured work areas and clear safety procedures. Breakrooms are equipped with refrigerators, freezers, and microwaves, and water and sports drinks are provided on-site. Company-provided uniforms and a boot voucher program support appropriate industrial attire, and locker rooms are available for personal storage and changing. The 2nd shift schedule includes a shift differential, reflecting the importance of this role in meeting next-day customer delivery commitments.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pineville, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.50 - $21.00/hr.
