Project Controls Specialist - Thermal Power Generation Projects
Your impact
Jacobs is seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist to support cost management, schedule development, progress measurement, and performance reporting for large‑scale thermal power generation engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects. This role is critical to ensuring predictable project execution through disciplined planning, forecasting, and controls governance. The Project Controls Specialist will implement and maintain project controls systems, collaborate with multi‑discipline teams, and provide accurate, timely insights that drive informed decision‑making across all phases of the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings deep EPC project controls experience, strong analytical capability, and a proven ability to manage complex cost and schedule data in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain project controls procedures, tools, and standards covering cost control, planning, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Support development of the project baseline including cost estimates, WBS structures, control budgets, resource plans, and integrated EPC schedules.
- Monitor project performance by tracking actual costs, commitments, quantities, earned value, schedule progress, and productivity metrics.
- Prepare and maintain detailed EPC schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent tools, including logic development, critical path analysis, schedule risk identification, and scenario modeling.
- Manage cost control processes including budget allocation, change management, trend analysis, contingency tracking, and monthly cost forecasting.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to collect progress data, validate performance, and ensure accurate reporting of deliverables and milestones.
- Support procurement and subcontracting by reviewing vendor schedules, validating progress claims, and integrating supplier data into the master project schedule and cost reports.
- Prepare and issue routine project controls deliverables including cost reports, schedule updates, earned value reports, KPIs, variance analyses, and executive dashboards.
- Identify deviations from plan, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to maintain project cost and schedule objectives.
- Support risk management processes including risk identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and integration of risk impacts into cost and schedule forecasts.
- Maintain strict compliance with project requirements, client standards, contractual obligations, and internal Jacobs project controls procedures.
- Participate in project reviews, audits, and stage‑gate assessments, providing clear, data‑driven insights to project leadership.
- Support project closeout by reconciling final cost and schedule performance, preparing lessons learned, and contributing to archival of project controls documentation.
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Finance, or related field; equivalent EPC project controls experience considered.
- 7+ years of project controls experience on EPC, industrial, or thermal power generation projects.
- Strong working knowledge of EPC project execution, engineering deliverables, procurement cycles, construction sequencing, and commissioning workflows.
- Proficiency with project controls software including Primavera P6, cost management systems (EcoSys, Prism, or similar), and standard reporting tools (Excel, Power BI).
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining cost control processes, integrated schedules, earned value systems, and performance measurement baselines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and communicate insights clearly to project leadership.
- Solid understanding of change management, risk management, forecasting methodologies, and contract/commercial impacts on cost and schedule.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage large volumes of cost and schedule data in a dynamic project environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to support multi‑discipline teams and interface effectively with clients, contractors, and stakeholders. #LI-CC1 #epjobs #naepjobs
