Sr Consulting/Principal Site Reliability Engineer
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of LexisNexis. We are currently looking for a Sr Consulting/Principal Site Reliability Engineer in North Carolina or Ohio.
This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the reliability, scalability, and performance of complex, high-volume systems hosted primarily in AWS. You will split your focus between core Site Reliability Engineering work and specialized cloud/database engineering tasks, collaborating closely with product teams, engineering leaders, and DBAs. From influencing system design and automation strategy to driving disaster recovery planning and incident management, you will be at the forefront of ensuring operational excellence. This position suits an experienced professional who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving challenging technical problems, and wants to mentor others while championing a culture of reliability.
Accountabilities
- Ensure the reliability, automation, and operational excellence of services while partnering with the DBA team to manage both relational and non-relational databases.
- Automate database deployments, support migrations (e.g., Oracle to Postgres), and troubleshoot performance issues including query optimization.
- Participate in capacity planning and configure high-availability solutions across diverse technologies such as DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Redis, and Cassandra.
- Influence design decisions to ensure production readiness, balancing performance, cost, security, and deployment velocity.
- Contribute to disaster recovery strategies, act as an escalation point during incidents, and ensure timely completion of DR testing.
- Analyze incident trends and recommend architectural or operational improvements to enhance stability and business outcomes.
- Promote observability best practices, guide Service Level Objective (SLO) adoption, and align reliability efforts with product priorities.
- Standardize components and tools in CI/CD pipelines, advocate for inner sourcing, and streamline engineering workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers and help embed SRE principles across the organization through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Proven experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong knowledge of AWS and both relational and non-relational database technologies.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Expertise in system design, disaster recovery planning, incident management, and observability practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and platform engineering concepts.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
