Position Overview

LeoTerra Development is seeking a dependable and skilled Lute Man to join our asphalt paving crew. The Lute Man plays a critical role in the paving process by spreading, leveling, and finishing asphalt to achieve a smooth, even surface. This position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work closely with the paving crew to ensure high-quality results on streets, driveways, and other development projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Use a lute (asphalt rake) to spread and level asphalt, filling in voids and low spots.
• Work closely with the Paver Operator, Screed Operator, and Roller Operators to ensure smooth transitions and proper surface finish.
• Assist in adjusting asphalt thickness and slope according to project specifications and site grades.
• Monitor asphalt consistency and temperature to maintain proper compaction and smoothness.
• Perform manual labor tasks such as raking, shoveling, and hand finishing as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized job site.
• Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors regarding paving progress and site conditions.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a Lute Man or in asphalt paving preferred.
• Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and processes.
• Ability to follow foreman instructions and site plans accurately.
• Physically fit, with stamina to perform manual labor outdoors.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a team.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and dust.
• Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for raking and hand finishing asphalt.
• Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail while performing repetitive, physically demanding tasks.
