About the Role:

The Physician Assistant in this role will provide comprehensive medical care to patients across oncology, urgent care, and critical care settings, ensuring timely and effective treatment interventions. This position demands a high level of clinical expertise to assess, diagnose, and manage complex patient conditions while collaborating closely with physicians and multidisciplinary teams. The PA will play a pivotal role in patient education, empowering individuals and their families with knowledge about their health status, treatment options, and preventive care strategies. By delivering compassionate and evidence-based care, the Physician Assistant will contribute significantly to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services. This role requires adaptability, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills to navigate the dynamic and often high-pressure environments of oncology and urgent care medicine.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the practicing state.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in oncology, urgent care, or critical care settings.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary oncology care team.
  • Additional certifications such as Oncology Certified Physician Assistant (OCPA).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Strong background in patient education and counseling techniques.
  • Experience in research or quality improvement initiatives related to oncology or critical care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations to evaluate health status and identify medical conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians, particularly in oncology and critical care cases.
  • Provide urgent care services including triage, stabilization, and management of acute illnesses and injuries.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, medication management, and preventive health measures.
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and laboratory results to guide clinical decision-making.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain detailed medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate patient care and optimize treatment outcomes.
  • Respond promptly to critical care situations, providing life-saving interventions and supporting advanced care planning.

The required skills in oncology, urgent care, patient education, and critical care are integral to daily clinical practice, enabling the Physician Assistant to deliver specialized and timely care to diverse patient populations. Oncology expertise allows for the management of complex cancer cases, including symptom control and coordination of chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Urgent care skills are essential for rapid assessment and treatment of acute conditions, ensuring patient safety and effective triage. Patient education skills facilitate clear communication, helping patients understand their diagnoses and engage actively in their care plans. Critical care competencies are vital for managing life-threatening situations, performing advanced interventions, and collaborating with critical care teams to stabilize and support critically ill patients.
