Manufacturing Process Optimization Engineer (Chemical Operations)

Step into a hands-on role where you’ll be the go-to engineer for improving plant processes and elevating safety, quality, cost, and delivery. As a Manufacturing Process Optimization Engineer, you’ll partner with operations, maintenance, EH&S, and quality to refine how work gets done and ensure best-in-class manufacturing performance.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
- Lead with safety: Engage in site safety programs and uphold company and regulatory standards with rigorous operational discipline.
- Improve the flow: Analyze process flows to boost capability, yields, reliability, and cost effectiveness while reducing waste and environmental footprint.
- Support the line: Observe production runs, investigate off-standard performance, perform root-cause analyses, and implement durable corrective actions.
- Raise the bar on quality: Maintain and enhance product quality via continuous process improvements and operating procedure updates.
- Collaborate to innovate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and drive technical upgrades and reliability improvements.
- Delight customers: Troubleshoot issues stemming from internal/external customer concerns and process deviations for both development and existing products.
- Bridge R&D and manufacturing: Serve as the technical liaison to integrate new product initiatives into production smoothly.
- Drive rigorous studies: Execute process evaluations/optimizations, capability studies, HAZOPs, process safety reviews, and designed experiments (DOEs).
- Be a trusted backup: Provide coverage for unit managers/supervisors as needed, including production reporting, decisions, and directing department work.
- Lead improvement events: Facilitate Lean/Six Sigma activities and performance analyses to deliver root-cause and corrective actions.
- Champion compliance: Align with PPG and SBU Quality and EH&S policies; ensure MOCs and RCCA are completed for EHS and Quality CARs.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent).
- 3+ years in process/manufacturing engineering, ideally in chemical or discrete manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma (preferred).
