What Youll Do

• Facilitate one-on-one and group interventions that promote self-worth, personal safety, boundary setting, and growth
• Support clients in developing recovery plans, Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADs), and Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAPs)
• Enhance clients coping, communication, and self-management skills
• Assist clients in system navigation, including advocacy, appointments, and benefit access
• Provide crisis and post-crisis support
• Assist with skill development in daily living, socialization, and symptom management
• Educate clients on available community resources and support re-entry following hospitalization
• Help clients manage appointments with mental health professionals
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in person-centered planning
• Respond as a first responder for crises on a 24/7/365 basis
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with agency and Medicaid standards

Who You Are

• Lived experience with a mental health or substance use disorder
• NC Peer Support Specialist Certification
• High school diploma or GED
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and members of the treatment team
• Stable recovery and self-identification as a person in recovery
• Valid NC drivers license
• Observational skills to interpret demeanor and spot signs of distress or crisis
• Ability to work flexible hours and in varied settings
• Compassion, resilience, and the ability to build trust with diverse populations
• Comfort working independently while staying connected to a supportive team
• Not a family member of the individual receiving services

Work Environment & Schedule

This role involves travel within the community and requires a flexible schedule based on client needs. Peer Support staff may work individually or with small groups (not exceeding 1:9 ratio), under a supervision ratio of 1:6 (QP to Peer Support FTEs). Services are billed in 15-minute increments.
