Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of PCU experience License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Essential nursing functions Teamwork and communication skills Experience with traches Cardiac gtt experience Cardiac rhythm interpretation Chest tubes management Blood products administration Wound care and dressing changes Management of central lines Description: We are seeking a registered nurse for the Progressive Care Unit. This position is for a 12-hour night shift, working 36 hours per week. The unit has 33 beds and requires a minimum of 18 months of PCU experience. The patient types include stroke rule out, pneumonia, cellulitis, failure to thrive, altered mental status, chest pain rule out, atrial fibrillation, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 to 1:6. If LPNs are applicable, they will take the primary nurse assignment. The CNA ratio is 1:8 to 1:12. Collaboration with CNAs for assistance with activities of daily living, vital signs, and telemetry monitoring is vital. The department is supported by a charge nurse, phlebotomists, and respiratory therapists available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring occurs at the nurses' station and a central monitoring location. The unit utilizes various technologies, including an electronic medical record system and specific monitoring equipment. Floating within the region and scope of practice may be required based on staffing needs. Traveling between facilities mid-shift will be compensated. Weekend rotation is required every other week with no on-call obligations. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Up to six days off may be approved, excluding holidays, with additional time added to the contract if unable to meet contracted hours.
