Description of Work

Employees provide basic medical care and train and assist individuals in activities of daily living; assist in performing complex nursing care; and provide safe and secure environments. Employees may provide individuals training for home living, social communications, leisure, vocations, community living, and functional academics. Employees implement and stay current in the assigned individuals' comprehensive/person-centered treatment plans. Work involves providing ongoing observation, interaction, and feedback to individuals and reporting concerns to the appropriate professional program staff. Work also involves working with the interdisciplinary/treatment team and providing input on each individual's care and condition. Work involves ongoing contact with individuals who may be diagnosed with a wide spectrum of psychiatric and/or developmental conditions that may include unpredictable behaviors, maladaptive, and potentially dangerous behaviors. Work may include providing custodial supervision to inmates. Work may involve other closely related duties including the administration of medications in prison facilities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Basic knowledge of a variety of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical and/or other related conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of teaching strategies and positive behavior support for people with severe cognitive deficits.
  • Ability to follow the treatment plans and/or clinical orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, staff and others.
  • Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.

Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (LNMTC), located in Wilson, NC, is a state-operated certified Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). With a staff of about 520, LNMTC provides support to approximately 200 residents with complex medical needs and/or co-existing neuro-cognitive disorders.

This position is designated mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events or other emergencies.

We will be recruiting for multiple positions with this post. Your application will be considered for all noted open positions.

Shift Premiums for 8-Hour Shifts:

Day: Saturday and Sunday 10%

Evening: Monday-Friday 20%, Saturday and Sunday 30%

Night: Friday-Sunday 30%, Monday-Thursday 20%

Shift Premiums for 12-Hour Shifts:

Day (7:00 am-7:30 pm): No Premiums

Evenings/ Night (7:00 pm-7:30 am): Monday-Friday 20%, Saturday and Sunday 30%

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.

DHHS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.

Positions in the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities shall be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal record background checks. Also, the use of tobacco products of any kind including vapor products are prohibited from our campuses. All employees are required to adhere to the facility's Vaccination Policy.

Veteran's and National Guard Preference:

Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Member-4 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to their applications.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service, must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Condition for Continued Employment As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
