What You’ll Do

• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Submit medical claims accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review and correct claim rejections and denials.
• Follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or denied claims.
• Post insurance payments, patient payments, and adjustments.
• Review patient balances and assist with billing questions.
• Process prior authorizations when needed.
• Work accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding claims.
• Communicate with patients regarding billing, balances, and payment options.
• Maintain accurate billing records in the electronic medical record system.
• Assist with Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, commercial insurance, and self-pay accounts.
• Follow HIPAA, clinic policies, and billing compliance guidelines at all times.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:

• **Job Requirements for Medical Billing Position**
• Previous medical billing experience is required.
• Experience in primary care billing is preferred.
• Familiarity with Athena or other electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance verification, CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, claim submission, denials, and payment posting is essential.
• Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance is preferred.
• Strong computer skills, as well as excellent communication and customer service skills, are necessary.
• Candidates must be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and professional.
• Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
• **Additional Qualifications:**
• - A minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing or a related field.
• - Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, coding, insurance verification, claims management, denial resolutions, and processes related to Athena, Medicaid/Medicare, and commercial insurance.
• - Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required.
• - Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, insurance companies, and team members.
• - Proficiency in medical billing software and standard office applications is necessary.
• - Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is important.
• - A focus on accuracy and professionalism is essential.
