Job Title: Accountant / Interim Controller

Location: Charlotte, NC

Pay: $33–$45/hr (3–6 Month Contract, Potential to Extend)

Job Description:

We are hiring an Accountant/Interim Controller to assist our client with year-end activities, day-to-day accounting tasks, and ongoing financial support. This role is ideal for someone with strong general accounting skills who can step into a busy environment and provide immediate value. Candidates ranging from Staff Accountant to Interim Controller level are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support year-end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and audit preparation
• Assist with recurring accounting operations such as AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and maintaining schedules
• Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Review financial activity for accuracy and completeness across various accounts
• Assist with internal audit checks, documentation updates, and compliance tracking
• Help maintain and update standard operating procedures within the accounting department
• Provide support for vendor and customer setup, purchase orders, and expense processing
• Prepare ad-hoc reports and assist with department projects as needed
• Cross-train with other accounting functions to provide department backup
• Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure smooth financial operations

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or project-based environments
• Comfortable with full-cycle accounting activities and supporting audits
• Prior experience with Vista/Viewpoint, AccountEdge, or similar accounting software is helpful
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
• Detail-oriented, dependable, organized, and able to work independently
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with field and office teams

Additional Details:

• Fully on-site role
• Standard hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility available with consistent schedule)
• Team of approximately six within the accounting function
