Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and the ability to administer chemotherapy on night shifts.

Details

• Inpatient Med/Surg unit with a primarily oncology patient population
• Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin drips
• Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection is required
• Target patient ratio is 1:6; ratios may be higher during periods of increased census
• Unit census is 42 beds
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas
• Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be rescheduled
• Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• EMR: Epic (Pyxis for medications; SBAR for communication)
• 13-week minimum contract; extensions up to 26 weeks accepted

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS certification required
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required (hard stop)
• Oncology experience preferred; willingness to obtain OCN certification is acceptable
• Must be able to administer chemotherapy
• Required skills: colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
• Cardiac monitoring skills required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Previous charge nurse experience and CPI certification are preferred

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts) on a weekly orientation schedule
• Pre-start modules (~8–10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed prior to start and annually; conducted via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
• Scrub color: Navy blue and white
• Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO is permitted (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; all RTO must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing
• Candidates who previously worked at this facility (permanent, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply
• Local candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are accepted but are subject to a lower pay rate
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must be on a different unit and have their own transportation
