Position Summary
The Community and Advocacy Organizer Manager is a key managerial role within NCAE, responsible supervising a team of Community and Advocacy Organizers, overseeing community and parent organizing, and liaison between the state and field, the field team, and parents. This position ensures the alignment of local organizing efforts with NCAE’s multi-year statewide campaign to fully fund public education, end harmful voucher programs and corporate tax breaks, and restore collective bargaining rights for educators and public school employees.

The Community and Advocacy Organizing Manager will guide field-based organizing work that builds grassroots power through relationships with educators, parents, and community leaders. They will provide strategic and day-to-day support to organizers, help develop systems for campaign coordination, and ensure ongoing leadership development and advocacy skill-building across NCAE’s local and communities.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management

  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate a team of Community and Advocacy Organizers assigned to different locals.
  • Set clear goals, priorities, and timelines to ensure organizers are advancing local and statewide campaign objectives.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, team check-ins, and staff development opportunities that foster collaboration, accountability, and growth.
  • Provide direct support to organizers in designing and executing local engagement strategies, public actions, and advocacy trainings.

Strategic Campaign Development

  • Collaborate with Government Relations, Organizing, Communications teams to implement campaign phases and strategies across regions.
  • Develop and track campaign plans in collaboration with organizers, ensuring field activities are aligned with broader messaging, policy priorities, and political timelines.
  • Help lead coordination across locals participating in NCAE’s statewide campaign to ensure shared learning, strategic consistency, and momentum.
  • Contribute to the development of legislative, policy, and electoral strategy by bringing insights from the field into internal planning processes.

Field Program and Advocacy Integration

  • Oversee the implementation of parent and community organizing programs across multiple districts, emphasizing long-term leadership development and power-building.
  • Guide implementation of tools for stakeholder mapping, local campaign assessments, and elected official tracking.
  • Collaborate with local leaders to identify and elevate parent, educator, and community spokespeople and train them on education advocacy and mobilization.
  • Ensure parent and community education materials are accessible and culturally relevant in collaboration with the WELL Center and Communications

Training, Events, and Coalition Engagement

  • Lead the design and facilitation of training for organizers, community members, and educators in areas such as effective advocacy, local education structures, electoral organizing, and policy impact.
  • Support coordination of large-scale community events, local actions, public forums, and press events that build narrative power and mobilize stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with allied organizations (e.g., Public School Forum, SIX, CREED, EJA, Down Home) to maximize collective impact.

Evaluation, Learning, and Reporting

  • Track program outcomes, field metrics, and organizer performance to inform ongoing learning and improvement.
  • Collect and synthesize field feedback to support campaign pivots, communications strategy, and policy decisions.
  • Develop written and verbal briefings to senior staff and elected leadership on field conditions and community sentiment.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, education advocacy, labor or community organizing, with 2+ years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Strong commitment to public education, racial justice, and collective action.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, manage complex projects, and work across departments or coalitions.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills; comfortable with public speaking and developing curriculum.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina’s political, education, or organizing landscape a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across North Carolina and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
