Position Overview

Novant Health Ashe Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment. This is a day-shift position in a 3-room OR with a 1:1 patient ratio, serving adolescent through geriatric populations.

The ideal candidate will have strong General OR experience and be comfortable with a wide variety of surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, and endoscopy procedures.

Schedule & Call

• Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Call required: Every 3rd day and every 3rd weekend
• Weekday call: 3:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend call: Friday 3:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM
• 30-minute call response time
• No floating required
• 24 hours of orientation

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
• Active North Carolina RN license or Compact license (must be in hand at start)
• ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• Experience in General OR settings
• Proficiency with Meditech charting system
• Strong experience with:
  • Colonoscopy & EGD
  • Laparoscopic-assisted procedures
  • Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon Resection
  • Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
  • Abdominal/Vaginal hysterectomy
  • C-sections, D&C
  • Cataract extraction & vitrectomy
  • Orthopedic procedures (ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, total joint replacement)
  • Cystoscopy
  • PACU/Recovery
  • Electrosurgical units
  • Conscious sedation monitoring
  • Administration of blood products
  • Infection control & radiation safety
  • IV starts & urinary catheterization

Patient Population & Common Procedures

• Appendicitis
• Bowel obstruction
• Cholecystitis
• Ureteral stones
• Orthopedic cases
• Ophthalmic cases
• GYN/OB procedures

Common procedures include:

• Appendectomy
• Bowel resection
• Colonoscopy & EGD
• Cholecystectomy
• C-sections
• Hysterectomy & hysteroscopy
• Ureteral stents & cystoscopy
• Prostate biopsy
• Orthopedic repairs

Additional Details

• Locals accepted
• COVID vaccine not required
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days RTO allowed (not during orientation or holidays)
• Travel pairs allowed (must work different units)
• Modules required pre-start (non-billable)
• Travelers may float within skillset based on census
