Assistant Race Timer

Beech Mountain Resort in Beech Mountain, NC is looking for one assistant race timer to join our team. We are located on 1007 Beech Mountain Pkwy. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, ambitious, and engaged.

The assistant race timer is responsible for running the timing software and sending the racers on course. The assistant timer is crucial in helping the lead timer do their role to the best of their ability. They set up and tear down all timing equipment and the PA system. They operate the primary timer system during the race. This is a great job for somebody who does well under pressure and is detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Set up and breakdown of start and finish line equipment
• Data management for new participants registering on race day
• Producing and posting race results during and after the event
• Managing the flow of participants at the start and finish line
• Fielding questions from participants about results

Qualifications

• Ability to problem solve
• Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment
• Experience with EXCEL and basic computer skills
• Punctual
• Weekday nights and weekend mornings required (race days/times can vary)- Most races consist on Thursday nights throughout January and February and multiple weekends throughout these months. Time commitment between 5 and 20 hours depending on the week.
• Must have driver's license and be comfortable driving in snow
• Four-wheel drive/AWD/chains required
• Ability to lift 20 pounds at a minimum and ideally up to 50 pounds
• Strong skiing skills required; must be able to ski the entire mountain, top to bottom, proficiently.
• Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with racers, race officials, coaching staff, co-workers and the ski area guests.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Knowledge of race procedures and regulations and experience in this field desirable.
