Clean Utilities Engineer
Technical Source is seeking an experienced Clean Utilities Engineer to join our team in support of a facility expansion project for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. This role will focus on ensuring the reliable design, installation, and operation of key clean utility systems such as Water for Injection (WFI), clean steam, caustic systems, and process air. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in clean utilities engineering for pharmaceutical or biotech operations on afternoon / evening shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering leadership in the design, installation, and commissioning of clean utility systems, with an emphasis on WFI, clean steam, caustic systems, and process air.
- Ensure WFI systems are fully drainable and meet industry specifications, including proper selection of components, valving, and piping.
- Support automation and documentation activities related to clean utility system operations, including writing sequences of operation and producing startup documentation.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize clean utility systems to ensure compliance with cGMP, company standards, and operational reliability.
- Collaborate with project engineers, contractors, and operations staff to integrate clean utility systems into existing and new manufacturing processes.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, submittals, and specifications for clean utility projects.
- Provide technical support in hydronic and chilled water systems as needed.
- Serve as a backup to current lead engineers and provide off-shift or flexible coverage in support of project schedules.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 5 - 12 years of experience in clean utilities or process engineering roles within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or similarly regulated industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in WFI system design, operation, and specification - including component selection, drainability, and piping standards.
- Deep understanding of clean steam generation and its application in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with process air, caustic utilities, and related support systems; hydronic/chilled water system knowledge is a plus.
- Experience working with system automation, including the ability to document and communicate sequences of operation.
- Proven ability to review and approve engineering documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related field) preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
