HR Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive HR support to a manufacturing facility, serving as the primary onsite HR resource. This role requires strong HR expertise, exceptional employee service, and the ability to partner effectively with site leadership. The HR Generalist will manage employee relations, HR compliance, timekeeping, leave administration, and day to day HR operations while maintaining a visible and approachable presence within the plant.

Contract: 6 months (possible extension)
Schedule: Mon-Friday 8am-5pm
Pay: $22/hr
Location: On-site - Tarboro, NC 27886

Additional Skills

Key Responsibilities:


Employee Relations:


- Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and provide consistent, high quality customer service.


- Maintain an open-door approach and high visibility for workers.


- Conduct investigations, collect statements, document findings, and escalate appropriately.


- Coach and guide managers on policy interpretation, performance concerns, and employee related decisions.


HR Operations & Administration:

- Manage daily HR administrative tasks, including documentation, data accuracy, and recordkeeping.


- Handle leave administration including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other LOA processes.


- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and company HR policies.


Timekeeping & Systems:


- Administer and troubleshoot timekeeping functions using UKG or similar HRIS systems.


- Ensure accurate employee time records and follow-up on discrepancies.


Partnering with Leadership:

- Work closely with plant management to ensure accountability and consistent application of HR standards.


- Provide proactive HR support on workforce needs, employee concerns, and policy matters.


- Help managers prioritize HR tasks and navigate competing demands effectively.


Compliance & Workplace Culture:

- Ensure compliance with employment laws, HR policy, and facility procedures.


- Collaborate with Safety personnel on workplace incidents (workers’ compensation is primarily handled by the Safety team).


- Support a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment.

Qualifications:

- 3+ years of Human Resources experience, ideally in manufacturing, industrial, or similar environments.


- Experience working in or supporting a union environment is helpful.


- Solid knowledge of HR laws and practices including ADA, FMLA, LOA administration, and general employment law.

- Experience with HRIS/timekeeping platforms, preferably UKG.


- Strong ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities.


- Confident decision-making skills, including the ability to appropriately say “no” and enforce policy.


- Excellent communication skills and the ability to take direction well.


- Professionalism, discretion, and strong ethical standards.
