Steel Fabrication Industry, Operations & Project Management Department

Reports to: Head of Project Management

Environment: In our Belmont, NC office & out in field (no overnight travel)

Steel Specialty is a quickly growing 2nd generation Steel Fabrication company with a strong culture - collaborative, family friendly, professional & personable. Our 50+ years in the market are unique as we started as a Miscellaneous Steel Fabricator and later added Structural Steel to our wheelhouse. We manage jobs for our customers in Healthcare , Commercial, Industrial, Higher Education etc..

What you will do: lead & execute our most complex, high risk / value structural & miscellaneous steel projects from turnover through closeout. Own your individual projects scope / schedule / cost / quality, while leading & mentoring other Project Managers. Handle escalations, and protect profitability, strengthen customer relationships, and elevate project management standards across the organization.

Who you are:

• Strong project manager & executer, cross collaborating with GC’s, subs, and leadership.

• Leader assessing risk, overseeing a smooth client relationship.

• Strong decision maker under pressure.

• Strategic thinker and excellent executive level communicator.
  

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent industry experience.

• 10+ years experience managing structural and/or miscellaneous steel projects.

• Demonstrated success managing large, complex, high risk fabrication projects.

• Proven ability to lead difficult conversations & resolve disputes.

• Mastery of contracts & change. Advanced schedule / cost control.

• Expert blueprint/spec interpretation & document control. Safety & quality minded.

What’s nice to have:

• Experience mentoring / supervising Project Managers.

• Experience managing multi-million dollar structural steel projects.

• Familiarity with AISC standards & risk management practices.

• Viewpoint Spectrum. Tekla PowerFab.

• PMP Certification. OSHA-30.
