Overview

The Assistant Venue Manager / Event Captain plays a key leadership role in supporting the day-to-day operations and event execution at The Honeysuckle Tea House & Farm. This position works directly with the Venue Director to ensure that all events run smoothly, clients feel cared for, and the team operates with consistency and professionalism.

The Assistant Venue Manager is a hands-on role that combines event leadership, client communication, and logistical coordination. This person should be self-motivated, capable of critical thinking, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a dynamic team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Event Leadership and Onsite Coordination

  • Serve as Event Captain during select events, acting as the onsite lead from the venue’s perspective.
  • Oversee event setup, service, and breakdown following The Honeysuckle Tea House & Farm’s SOPs and checklists.
  • Provide clear direction to event staff (bartenders, catering support/servers, setup/breakdown crew, vendors).
  • Ensure venue spaces are guest-ready and maintained throughout events.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues calmly and efficiently as they arise.
  • Ensure event timelines are followed and all venue responsibilities are completed.

Client Relations and Support

  • Work closely with the Venue Director to learn all aspects of client communication and event coordination.
  • Assist with answering client questions before and during events.
  • Help build positive relationships with clients, planners, and vendors to ensure smooth event experiences.
  • Lead select client walkthroughs or check-ins as trained.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor, representing the venue’s values of hospitality and care.

Team Collaboration and Communication

  • Build rapport with fellow team members and support a positive, cooperative environment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff to ensure everyone is clear on roles and expectations.
  • Support training and accountability for event staff in following SOPs and maintaining standards.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide feedback to the Venue Director.

Venue and Operational Support

  • Assist in organizing event supplies, linens, décor, and other venue materials.
  • Ensure proper care and return of venue equipment after each event.
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Support with setup for client walk-throughs, vendor meetings, and onsite projects as needed (e.g., take inventory).

  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with willingness to “jump in” wherever needed
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs (standard operating procedures)
  • Experience in event management, hospitality, or catering operations preferred

Physical and Availability Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, move tables, chairs, and event supplies as needed.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the venue; punctuality and dependability are essential.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and occasional weekdays for meetings, walkthrough tours, or setup.
  • Willingness to work outdoors on the farm and in varying weather conditions.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week (variable based on event schedule).
  • Compensation depends on experience and responsibilities.
  • This role also receives a proportionate share of event service charges (gratuities), which provide reliable additional earning potential at most events.
  • Total compensation is at par with similar part-time roles in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
