Quality Control Lab Technician
Summary/Objective:
A Concrete Lab Technician plays a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of concrete materials used in construction projects. This professional works in a laboratory setting to conduct tests on concrete samples, ensuring they meet industry standards and specifications for strength, durability, and other critical properties.
- Perform standard laboratory tests on concrete samples, including slump tests, compression tests, air content tests, and density tests.
- Prepare concrete mixes, ensuring the correct proportion of ingredients for tests.
- Use specialized equipment like compression machines, air meters, and other laboratory instruments to test the properties of concrete.
Data Entry, Collection & Analysis:
- Data entry in SCM’s Quality Control Database
- Record and analyze results from concrete tests and experiments.
- Maintain accurate records of test procedures, results, and interpretations.
- Prepare reports summarizing data trends, test findings, and provide recommendations based on results.
Sample Preparation:
- Prepare and cast concrete samples in molds for testing, ensuring consistency in material quality.
- Monitor curing conditions of concrete samples to ensure proper development of strength and other properties.
Equipment Calibration & Maintenance:
- Regularly calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure the accuracy of test results.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment to meet safety and operational standards.
Quality Control:
- Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures for concrete testing.
- Ensure that testing methods comply with local, state, and national standards, such as ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) guidelines.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Quality and Operations Group to ensure concrete materials meet project specifications.
- Provide technical assistance in addressing any concrete-related issues that arise during construction.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow proper safety protocols and ensure that the lab environment remains safe for all personnel.
- Stay up to date on the latest safety standards and regulatory requirements in the industry.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work in a fast-paced environment with a need to respond to ever-changing scenarios. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The role is typically based in a laboratory setting but may also involve visits to construction sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to communicate with customers and frequently with employees. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and the hours of work and days are Monday through Friday. Occasional early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:- This position requires some travel.
Required Education and Experience:
- ACI Level I certification or the ability to achieve such certification
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in construction materials testing, is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with concrete testing equipment and tools.
- Familiarity with concrete mix designs and standard testing methods (e.g., ASTM standards)
- Attention to Detail:
- Ability to accurately measure, record, and analyze test data.
Communication Skills:
- Clear communication skills for reporting test results and collaborating with engineers and project teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Well-developed project management skills
