Development Manager
Status: Full-time, exempt
Salary: $70,000-$75,000 with benefits
Location: Main office in Raleigh, NC; hybrid (3 days in office / 2 days remote). Requires frequent travel across the Triangle and other parts of the state. Some evening and weekend work required during peak fundraising and election seasons.

About the Position
NCAAT is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Development Manager to manage institutional fundraising execution, oversee the full grant lifecycle, steward funder relationships, and strengthen development systems.
This role is responsible for executing fundraising strategy in alignment with priorities set by the Deputy Director of Strategy & Development and senior leadership. The Development Manager plays a critical role in sustaining and growing revenue to support the organization’s expanding programmatic work by ensuring strong grant management, compliance, and cross-functional coordination.
This position reports to the Deputy Director of Strategy & Development and works closely with program, finance, communications, and executive leadership staff. This is a Manager-level individual contributor role. The Development Manager owns systems and cross-functional coordination but does not supervise staff at this time.
Responsibilities
- Manage institutional fundraising execution in alignment with organizational strategy
- Own and manage the full grant lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, reporting, and compliance
- Develop and maintain an annual grant calendar with clear internal deadlines and deliverables
- Write and edit grant proposals, renewals, reports, and funder communications
- Lead internal grant kickoff meetings to clarify scope of work, reporting requirements, budgets, and compliance expectations
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate submission of proposals and reports
- Ensure grant agreements are properly executed and documented within the organization’s CRM
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and funder records within the CRM, including contact lists, engagement history, deadlines, and reporting schedules
- Partner with finance staff to develop proposal budgets and align financial reporting with funder requirements
- Communicate with accounting staff to ensure timely preparation of required financial documentation
- Steward relationships with foundation, corporate, and institutional funders in partnership with senior leadership, including responding promptly to funder inquiries and information requests
- Support funder calls, site visits, and external engagements through preparation materials, briefing documents, and follow-up coordination
- Research, evaluate, and present new funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities, including recommendations for strategic fit
- Track and report on grant pipeline progress, submission timelines, and institutional revenue performance in partnership with the Deputy Director of Strategy & Development
- Draft impact briefs, end-of-year reports, and other development-related communications
- Lead development-related conference planning and execution in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Strategy & Development, including selecting staff participants, preparing briefing materials, managing development-related budgets and expense tracking, coordinating pre- and post-conference follow-up, and supporting staff preparation and training
- Maintain working knowledge of organizational programs and priorities to ensure accurate and compelling funding narratives
- Participate in program and leadership meetings to stay informed of funding needs and organizational priorities
- Provide general operational support for development activities as needed to ensure strong stewardship and organizational follow-through

Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, institutional fundraising, or grant management
- Demonstrated success writing and securing foundation or institutional funding
- Strong writing and editing skills with experience producing grant proposals and reports
- Experience managing multiple complex deadlines simultaneously
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Commitment to equity, social justice, and civic engagement
- Driver’s license and reliable access to transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in political, civic engagement, or advocacy organizations
- Experience using nonprofit CRM systems
- Experience stewarding corporate partnerships
- Experience working with both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations
- Basic proficiency in an Asian language
