Thermoforming Process Engineer (Plastics Manufacturing)
Day in the Life — Oxford, NC
Step onto our production floor in Oxford, NC and you will start your day reviewing overnight line performance, studying yield and downtime dashboards, and planning your next round of process trials. By mid-morning, you are partnering with Quality and Maintenance to verify a new parameter window that tightens variability. After lunch, you lead a quick stand-up with operators to align on safety and standard work, then document updated SOPs and train the shift on the change. You wrap up by analyzing production data for trends, prioritizing the next continuous improvement sprint to reduce waste and boost throughput.
What You Will Do
- Design, implement, and refine plastic manufacturing processes with a focus on thermoforming.
- Assess production lines for efficiency, quality, and stability; drive corrective actions.
- Partner cross-functionally to troubleshoot issues and remove bottlenecks.
- Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and SOPs.
- Lead continuous improvement projects that increase productivity and minimize scrap.
- Champion compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
- Coach and mentor production teams on best practices and new technologies.
- Analyze line data to detect trends and pinpoint improvement opportunities.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- 2+ years of production engineering experience in plastics and thermoforming.
- Solid grasp of manufacturing processes and quality control methodologies.
- Proficiency with engineering software and analysis tools for process design and optimization.
- Exceptional problem-solving ability and meticulous attention to detail.
- Collaborative mindset and effectiveness in team environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and manufacturing best practices.
