Induction Heat Treatment Process Engineering Technologist

What your week looks like

You’ll be the go-to technologist for induction heat treatment (IH). Your days start with prints and metallurgical specifications, translating data into robust setups and—when appropriate—authorizing run-at-risk activities. You’ll move from the lab bench to the shop floor, diagnosing equipment and tooling issues alongside technicians, the coil shop, and maintenance to keep production steady and compliant.

How you’ll make an impact

• Interpret drawings and metallurgical specs; analyze metallurgical data to solve problems and support run-at-risk authorization.
• Troubleshoot IH equipment and tooling; collaborate closely with technicians, coil shop, and maintenance to resolve issues.
• Apply and expand knowledge of metallurgical testing techniques to validate processes.
• Coordinate with subcontractors on manufacturing, repairs, and specialized technical projects.
• Train and assess technical leads for IH operations; attain Level II MPI certification and serve as a trainer and auditor.
• Partner with Engineering to close gaps to GKN Standards across IH processes.
• Support new programs, PPAP submissions, and development activities.
• Own fault logic, debug, run-off, development, and optimization for new and existing IH/machine processes.
• Help define IH and tempering processes; recommend coil designs and process parameters aligned with GKN Standards.
• Build and maintain systems supporting TS-16949, CQI-9, TMC Checklist, and GKN Standards.
• Learn and apply safety codes for IH and related processes.
• Meet AIAG CQI-9 requirement (Section 1, Item 1.1); bring a minimum of 5 years of induction hardening experience and education.
• Complete the ASM correspondence course “Elements of Metallurgy,” or equivalent.
• Serve as a technical leader to IH Senior Manufacturing Technicians, Production Cell Members, Team Leaders, and Metallurgical Lab Technicians.
• Attend the Lean Enterprise Leadership Capabilities (LELC) class and commit to continuous improvement using first-time-right and lean principles.
