About the PositionA growing civil engineering and land surveying firm is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and expand its engineering team in Charlotte, NC. This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional who excels at building and mentoring engineering teams, overseeing land development projects, and driving business growth. The Director of Engineering will be instrumental in strengthening the firm’s presence in the Charlotte market while ensuring high-quality project execution and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:- Identify and secure new engineering clients through strategic outreach, networking, and relationship-building.
- Build and manage a team of civil engineers and designers, providing guidance and leadership throughout all project phases.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to oversee the design and execution of diverse land development projects.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and excellence in design documents.
- Lead the development of civil engineering plans, including grading, stormwater management, utilities, roadways, and site layouts.
- Review, approve, and seal drawings, specifications, and reports prepared by the internal design team.
- Manage project technical quality, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful outcomes.
- Oversee multiple small and large-scale projects simultaneously.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in North Carolina (required).
- Strong local market knowledge and established industry relationships to drive business development.
- 8-12 years of civil engineering experience, particularly in land development.
- Proven leadership experience in supervising and mentoring technical staff.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D software (required).
