Custodian

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Custodian in High Point, NC. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout assigned facilities. This position performs routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and facility support services to ensure buildings, grounds, and common areas are well-maintained and presentable for employees, customers, students, visitors, or residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize offices, classrooms, restrooms, break rooms, hallways, and other facility areas.

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and polish floors.

• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.

• Clean windows, mirrors, walls, furniture, and fixtures.

• Restock restroom and facility supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.

• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet cleaners.

• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and repair needs to management.

• Assist with room setups, furniture movement, and special event preparations as needed.

• Follow all safety procedures and properly handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.

• Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.

• Ensure facility security by locking and unlocking designated areas as assigned.

• Respond promptly to spills, emergencies, and special cleaning requests.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

• Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment is a plus.

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.

• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

• Basic knowledge of workplace safety procedures.

• Dependable attendance and punctuality.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb for extended periods.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to push and pull carts, cleaning equipment, and supplies.

• Work is performed in a commercial/industrial setting with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures.

• May require evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call work depending on facility needs.
