Position Description:

The City of Burlington, NC is seeking a GIS Coordinator to join the GIS Division under the Planning and Community Development Department.

This position performs technical work to support, develop, implement and maintain GIS databases, Web maps and Web Apps within an ArcGIS enterprise environment. Work involves creating, updating and maintaining GIS data layers, creating maps, and upgrading software for a variety of City Departments, and for a Regional GIS Partnership (ReGIS), that includes the City of Graham and the Town of Elon. Work requires functioning within established guidelines. Work is performed under the supervision of the GIS Administrator and is evaluated through periodic observation, report reviews, quality and effectiveness of work completed and compliance with established policy and procedures. This classification is considered non-exempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties and Tasks
• Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment
• Creates, prints, and exports maps for the public and city departments as requested
• Gathers, analyzes, and integrates spatial data from staff and determines how best the information can be displayed using ESRI ArcGIS solutions.
• Share and manage web services, web maps and web applications in AGOL and ArcGIS Portal.
• Designs, develops, and implements systems and databases for storing and accessing geospatial data
• Creates data using GPS, addresses point updates and verification
• Monitors and manages web maps, web applications, and ArcGIS Enterprise functions.
• Trains new users of software and GPS Hardware
• Installs software, upgrades, and troubleshoots and GIS related problems
• Research and tests new GIS technology, software, and organizational tools
• Performs related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Minimum of 5 years experience.
• Working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise
• Considerable knowledge of principles and practices pertaining to GIS.
• Experience with SDE versioned databases.
• Ability to interpret engineer drawings, maps, plats, legal documents, and surveys.
• Skill in producing maps, web apps, web maps and other GIS products.
• Ability to perform Global Positioning System (GPS) field data collection and post processing.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
• Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet specific deadlines regarding GIS projects
• Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
• Ability to compile a variety of information and records and exercise good judgment in maintaining information, records, and reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, department heads and other employees

Salary Range: $63,835.20 - $102,128.00 Annually
