Schedule: First shift (7am-3:30pm/ Rotation A & B), Second shift (3pm-11:30pm/ Rotation B), and Third shift (11pm-7:30am/ Rotation A)
Rotation A: Sunday-Thursday
Rotation B: Tuesday-Saturday
Position Summary
The Certified Counselor plays a vital role in residential treatment services by monitoring client care, assessing individual needs, and coordinating treatment services. This position conducts client admissions, facilitates care coordination, maintains strong community partnerships, and supports clients throughout treatment and transition planning. The Certified Counselor works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, person-centered care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Certified Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical and coordination services, including but not limited to:
Conduct client admissions by completing initial assessments, reviewing vitals, UDS results, preliminary diagnoses, and ASAM criteria in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Create a welcoming and supportive admission experience by engaging clients with professionalism, clear communication, and customer-focused service.
Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to support informed clinical decision-making.
Complete required documentation, including NC TOPPS and GPRA, as applicable.
Provide ongoing care coordination and case management services throughout the client’s treatment stay and assist with discharge and transition planning.
Coordinate services across Anuvia programs and community partners; educate clients on benefits, resources, and available supports.
Advocate for clients by helping them understand treatment options and make informed decisions regarding their care.
Facilitate client workgroups focused on independent living skills, recovery education, relapse prevention, and community reintegration.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver best-practice, person-centered services, including contributing to program curriculum and workshop development.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record and ensure compliance with state, agency, and federal standards.
Develop and maintain relationships with referral sources and community agencies; remain knowledgeable of available community resources.
Complete incident reports in accordance with state and agency guidelines.
Participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and assigned QA/QI activities, including addressing out-of-compliance items.
Facilitate family involvement in the recovery process when appropriate.
Communicate effectively with families, guardians, and external partners to support continuity of care.
Monitor client progress in collaboration with clinical staff and adjust care plans as needed.
Facilitate discharge meetings and ensure clients understand follow-up appointments, medications, and ongoing supports.
Demonstrate professionalism, positivity, and teamwork through appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication.
Maintain knowledge of and compliance with agency policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Work a flexible schedule, including staying late, arriving early, or adjusting shifts as needed to meet staffing and state ratio requirements.
If credentialed as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), provide peer support services that promote recovery, self-advocacy, wellness, and community living skills.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Associate’s degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred
One (1) year of related experience and/or training preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered
Must maintain certification with the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read, interpret, and document clinical and administrative information
Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills
Basic math and reasoning skills
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment
Computer Skills:
Proficient with personal computers and electronic health records
Ability to document clinical activity and communicate via email
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other required software
Certificates & Licenses:
CADC Registrant required
Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License required
