Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Located at a 207-licensed-bed hospital in Charlotte, NC, designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Candidates will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation; possible units include ADTU, 7N/S Ortho Surgical, 6S Medical Telemetry, 5N Surgical Telemetry, 4N Cardiac Medical Telemetry, 3N Medical Telemetry, and 2N Medical
  • Patient populations vary by unit and include Med/Tele overflow, orthopedic/surgical, cardiac, respiratory, renal, bariatric, GI, behavioral health, and detox patients
  • Typical diagnoses include CHF, COPD, chest pain, stroke, arrhythmias, ESRD, DM, pancreatitis, sickle cell, GI bleed, and behavioral health conditions
  • RN patient ratio is 1:5–6, with critical surge ratios of 1:7–8; CNA ratio is 1:6–12
  • EMR: Epic; IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating is required across all units within scope at the home facility, as well as to other facilities within the assigned region — candidates who are not agreeable to multi-facility floating should not apply

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • General Med/Tele skills required: stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, PCA pump management, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley)
  • Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Ortho experience and knowledge of spinal precautions required if assigned to 7N/S Ortho Surgical unit
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

  • Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
  • Schedules are posted on a 6-week cycle
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • Support staff includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team (11a–7p and 11p–7a), resource nurse (as staffing allows), RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist coverage
  • Clinical interview is required
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
