Charlotte Montessori School is a thriving, family owned, long-standing Montessori community serving children an enrollment of 206 children from fifteen months through kindergarten in the heart of Charlotte, NC. For more than five decades, our school has built a reputation for excellence, warmth, and authenticity — guided by a deep respect for children and a steadfast commitment to the Montessori philosophy.
Located in the historic Dilworth neighborhood, Charlotte Montessori is surrounded by beautiful tree-lined streets, charming historic houses, family-friendly parks, and a strong sense of community. Dilworth blends small-town charm with the energy of city life — where families walk to local shops and cafes, and children grow up in a vibrant, welcoming environment. We are a year-round, family-friendly school, open from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., providing consistency and care that support the children and their wonderful families. Charlotte Montessori is a great school with a great tradition — and we’re seeking a Head of School who will honor that legacy while guiding our community into its next chapter of growth and stability. Position Overview
The Head of School serves as the chief executive of Charlotte Montessori School, overseeing all daily operations and ensuring that the school’s mission, philosophy, and culture are upheld across every aspect of school life. This year-round position requires a leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, balancing administrative responsibilities with hands‑on leadership and community engagement.
The Head of School consults with the Executive Director and Owners on major strategic or financial decisions, while independently managing the day‑to‑day operations with confidence, integrity, and sound judgment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the school community with warmth, respect, and transparent communication.
- Manage all aspects of daily operations, including staffing, program quality, compliance, and parent relations.
- Mentor and coach teachers — actively improving the quality of instruction, strengthening classroom practice, and fostering professional growth.
- Partner with the Executive Director and Owners on strategic planning, budgeting, and policy decisions.
- Recruit, retain, and develop exceptional educators who embody Montessori values and professionalism.
- Foster a culture rooted in kindness, collaboration, and a shared commitment to each child’s growth and independence.
- Oversee administrative functions including admissions, communication, and professional development.
- Build trust and engagement with families and the broader Montessori community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or AMS/AMI Montessori credential preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of school leadership or educational administration experience (Montessori experience strongly preferred).
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor educators and elevate instructional quality.
- A calm, confident presence that leads with kindness, respect, and accountability.
- Commitment to long‑term engagement and the continued growth of Charlotte Montessori School.
