Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician
P&A Industrial Fabrications is currently seeking a Multi-Craft Technician with Mechanical, Electrical and PLC skillsets. This position is responsible for a wide range of mechanical, electrical and control systems job duties including installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and making effective repairs on industrial manufacturing equipment and utility systems including:
- Performing Mechanical repairs as required including belts, chains, sprockets/sheaves/pulleys, bearings, shafts, gears, rollers, valves, pumps, fans, dampers, air filtration systems, knives, alignment, tensioning, and lubrication.
- Performing Electrical repairs as required including conduit, wiring, motors, control devices/systems, variable speed drives and PLC control systems.
- The Multi-Craft Technician must be willing to devote whatever effort is necessary to keep production machinery operational, assuring the required manufacturing capacity is always available to enable the company to meet customer requirements for delivery, quality, and cost.
- The successful candidate will work independently and/or with other plant personnel to perform these tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Perform both mechanical and electrical job requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in a timely manner.
- Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment per the established preventive maintenance program.
- Track and analyze re-occurring failures to determine the root cause. Develop and implement solutions to remediate and prevent re-occurrence. Ability to assess multiple options and provide clear recommendations.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production and utility equipment as required. Works overtime as needed and On Call.
- Performs simple machinist and welding duties as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, manufacturing specifications, mechanical/electrical schematics, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Experienced in 3-phase power, variable frequency drives, motors, motor controls, machine system controls and PLCs.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties. Use precision measuring instruments to maintain specifications and tolerances while repairing industrial equipment.
- Detects faulty operations and report any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Rebuild mechanical equipment by disassembling, inspecting, and restore to like new condition by performing repairs or replacing worn or broken parts. Upon start-up, make proper adjustments to ensure equipment performs as required.
- Measure, make sketches and fabricate parts, fit keys, lay out center lines, weld, cut, fit bearings, drill, tap and align holes.
- Use CMMS to document and manage maintenance activities.
- Good time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, duties, and tasks. Must be a self-starter, able to see what needs to be done and possess the drive to accomplish the required tasks. Must be multi-talented, extremely flexible in work assignments.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with production staff. Willingness to integrate into a closely knit team.
- Abide by safe work standards including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Fall Protection, Confined Spaces, and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines. Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Desire for continual learning and personal development. Trains/mentors other technicians in department. Will share knowledge freely with others.
- Required to lift heavy materials, climb, stand, squat, bend, and work at heights with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Participates in Kaizen and Lean activities as necessary to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associates Degree, Technical Certificate program or equivalent experience.
- 3 to 5 years of electrical, mechanical, or multi-craft maintenance experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Some PLC experience with ability and willingness to learn and apply skillsets required to support troubleshooting and repairs on manufacturing and utility equipment.
