Major Responsibilities
- Accountable for directing all operations of Patient Services at assigned Area.
- Establishes nursing standards for patient care, treatment and services and standards of nursing practice by assuring that all nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standard and requirement of the practice State, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Identifies and articulates the vision and strategic direction for the delivery of patient care and the discipline of Nursing across all patient care settings for assigned area; directs and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them.
- In conjunction with other Atrium Health executive leadership, participates in strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs and services, assuring appropriate resources for the delivery of care.
- Recommends and implements policies and procedures to improve efficiency and delivery of quality patient care.
- Plans, manages, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical and administrative activities for the department of nursing and the administrative activities for other clinical and non-clinical areas.
- Provides leadership in the establishment and oversight of credentialing/privileging policies for nurses and ensures compliance with such policies of nurses who seek to practice and who practice within the area practice area.
- Serves as the senior spokesperson for Nursing in the area. Advises the area senior leadership, the medical staff, board and individual clinical facilities and other internal and external groups by providing input about the implications of decisions and changes on the quality of patient care, on nursing practice, and on nursing care providers.
- Establishes strong collaborative relationship with medical staff to achieve and encourage active participation from all staff members and create a working environment that will encourage retention of clinical employees.
- Encourages innovation of the staff for the betterment of the welfare of the patients and the organization.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices or; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non National License Compact states, current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works.
Education Required
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; MSN required.
Experience Required
10 years of nursing management experience; Prior hospital CNO experience required; Previous experience should include significant board and medical staff interaction.

- Must be knowledgeable of current leadership, management, and quality improvement concept and Magnet standards.
- Ability to participate in developing and implementing organizational strategies to address opportunities to improve the delivery of patient / nursing care.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with all members of the health care team. Has a track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to set a clear vision and infuse it with positive energy and enthusiasm.
- A track record of success managing change and continuous improvement.
- Accountability for results and consistent follow through to achieve them.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

The CNO for Atrium Health Carolina’s Medical Center provides strategic and operational leadership for all nursing and patient care services within the Carolinas Medical Center license.
