Manufacturing Engineer - Composites

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled manufacturing engineer to support in-house production of complex composite parts and assemblies. This role will interface heavily with both the product engineering group and the production floor, bringing new designs to fruition, improving manufacturing efficiency on current products, and supporting the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Support the production of composite parts and assemblies through design and implementation of tooling, assembly fixtures, and quality control tools.
• Author and maintain comprehensive documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
• Support product engineering department through generation of relevant CAD data for manufacturing of new designs.
• Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes for scalability, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
• Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflows, estimating future requirements, determining equipment and space requirements, and defining shop floor layout.
• Generate reports to communicate data and trends regarding production time studies, material and labor costs, and production scheduling.
• Organize storage and establish protocol for proper maintenance of tooling assets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to resolve complex fabrication challenges or other production issues.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for manufacturing-related issues.

Qualifications

Skills & Abilities

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
• Strong mechanical and analytical aptitude with proven problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
• Proficient with 3D CAD software, SolidWorks preferred.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Education & Experience

• Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field, an associate's degree in engineering or technical field with 2+ years of relevant work experience, or 4+ years of relevant work experience will be considered.
• Experience with composite materials and processing methods is a plus, but not a requirement.
• Experience with advanced fabrication technologies and automation is a plus.
• Experience with optical 3D scanning technology is a plus.
