Project Manager
Job Description
Job Description
Most electrical contractors need a Project Manager who files paperwork and attends meetings. We need someone who runs the work. Bilingual English/Spanish is ideal for this role.
Volt Tech is a commercial and industrial electrical contractor based in Raleigh, NC. We power the buildings that power other businesses — retail centers, industrial facilities, and commercial construction.
We're not looking for a project administrator. We're recruiting a 2nd-in-command for the field.
THE PATH
Project Manager — Year 1: $85,000 You take ownership of active project tracking: schedules, budgets, client communication, crew coordination, and status updates. Byron still owns estimating and client relationships. You own execution once the job is sold.
WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
You'll spend your mornings reviewing where every active job stands — schedule, budget, open issues, crew status. You'll make the calls that keep things moving. When a material delivery is wrong, you fix it before the crew shows up. When Byron is in an estimating meeting, you handle the client escalation.
Some days are clean. More days aren't. Commercial electrical work runs on tight margins, tight timelines, and general contractors who expect accountability. You'll be the one accountable.
You'll be on active construction sites regularly.
You'll also be the person who reports what's actually happening. Not what sounds good. Not what Byron wants to hear. The actual status of every active project is delivered clearly and consistently every week.
If you're looking for a desk job with clear boundaries and predictable days — this isn't it. If you want to actually run something and see the results of your work go vertical on a building, you're in the right place.
WHO BELONGS HERE
- Continuous Improvement — You don't need to know everything about electrical. You need to learn fast and adapt. Your time to run a project smoothly should shorten every quarter.
- Accountability — Take ownership of the work you are doing on a project. If they don’t complete their work, it affects everyone. If you’re just here for a check, this isn’t the crew.
- Own the Solution — When something breaks on a jobsite, you troubleshoot and resolve before calling Byron. You report what you did, not what you need. If you made a mistake, you say so the same day and tell us how you fixed it.
- Preparation — Zero wasted first hours on site. You review the scope, confirm materials, and know what the crew is walking into before they walk into it. Scrambling is the enemy.
- Protect the Company — You hear about a problem before Byron does. That's the standard. If something happened on a jobsite that could reflect poorly on Volt Tech, Byron knows from you first — not from the contractor, not from the client.
- Finish the Work — You take ownership of the projects on your plate. If your schedule slips, it affects the whole crew. "I was waiting on someone else" is not an answer.
- Continuous Improvement — You don't need to know everything about electrical. You need to learn fast and adapt. Your time to run a project smoothly should shorten every quarter.
- Respect — We're not the most important trade on the jobsite, and we don't act like it. You work alongside general contractors, other trades, and clients. You show up without ego.
WHY VOLT TECH
- Direct line to the founder — Byron is accessible and expects the same in return.
- Small enough to matter, growing fast enough to move into leadership.
- Company-provided tools and resources for project tracking.
- Team that holds each other accountable — no one carries dead weight here.
- Real career path — as we expand into SC and VA, this role grows with us.
If you've read this far, you already know whether this is for you.
