Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and a 12-hour night shift commitment.

- 32-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma hospital that is also a Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes those not requiring mechanical ventilation, such as CHF, dysrhythmia, chest pain workup, stroke, abdominal illness/infections, respiratory illness, diabetes, AKI/CKD, ETOH withdrawal, and IVDA
- Typical RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of 1:5 depending on acuity
- Common procedures include trach management, cardiac drip administration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube care, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
- Telemetry monitoring available at bedside and nurses station
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within the region and scope of practice (Region 3: Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trach management, cardiac drip administration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube care, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and central line management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Support staff includes CNAs for ADLs, a charge nurse available as a resource, phlebotomy (nurse draws only when needed), an IV/VAT team, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7); unit receptionist/HUC is available on day shift only
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
- Required scrub color: Navy

- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
