Environmental Health Specialist
Example of Duties:
The primary purpose is the protection and promotion of public health through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection and enforcement of mandated state, local, and federal Environmental Health laws and regulations to include the areas of on-site sewage disposal systems, on-site potable water supplies, food and lodging establishments, migrant camps, public swimming pools, solid waste, tattoo establishments, childcare facilities, childhood lead prevention, and public health nuisances.
- Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate or postgraduate degree program with a minimum of 30 semester hours or its equivalent in the physical or biological sciences and two years of experience in the field of environmental health practice; or graduation from a baccalaureate or postgraduate degree program that is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC) and a minimum of one year experience in the field of environmental health practice.
- Employee must obtain at least 15 hours of approved continuing education per year that are approved by the North Carolina Environmental Health Specialist Examiners Board.
- Appointee must be eligible for registration and apply for registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Intern within 60 days of employment. Employee may remain registered as an Environmental Health Specialist Intern until registration as an Environmental Health Specialist or up to three years, whichever comes first.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
- Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
